Hotel Excelsior - Central Station

The location is good, though there are better places in that same spot. My room was tiny and looked as if it hadn't been renovated in years. The furniture and walls reminded me of my grandma's old things, but that didn't bother me much for a one-night stay. What did bother me was having no AC in August, with it 40C outside. Maybe the free minibar and lobby refreshments, including a very good cake, are meant to make guests less annoyed. The staff weren't very friendly, though I guess that's simply because it's Germany. I've stayed at another hotel very close by for almost the same price, and everything there was incomparably better. I'd recommend booking somewhere else, as there are lots of better options.

The rooms are small but comfortable, and the minibar is free. Mine faced the road, though, and the traffic noise made it hard to sleep. The carpet was a little dusty too. Service was good, and the lobby and breakfast area were neat. Breakfast was good as well. I would recommend it.

The location is ideal, just a minute's walk from the central station entrance. Every room has a free minibar, and the lobby offers complimentary water, tea, and light snacks, a nice touch you don't often see even at major hotel companies. My only drawback was the lack of air-conditioning during blazing summer heat.

Breakfast had plenty of choices, though honestly I wasn't impressed by the bread, which probably wasn't very fresh. I was here for one night on a business trip, taking a break on the way from Kiel to Freiburg, and the location near the train station worked perfectly. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. It was a bit small, but I got a twin room because no single was available, so it worked fine for me. Two people would have had little room to breathe.
