Hotel Spenerhaus

The courtyard side of my room was peaceful and relaxing. It’s a compact but practical room, and the bathroom is small but workable. The place has charm, so I’m rounding 4.5 stars up to 5. It’s tucked just off the main street, close to the metro and Zeil shopping area. There’s no air conditioning, which was rough during the record heat wave when I visited. The provided fan barely kept me from dying, though things improved once the weather went back to normal.

The rooms are basic but clean and okay, and breakfast isn’t anything special. The conference lunch was laughable: there wasn’t enough food, it was very salty, there were few salads, and the water was only sparkling. The main course didn’t feed all the guests. The fruit in the conference room wasn’t fresh either, and there wasn’t enough food for everyone at dinner.

The rooms were surprisingly spacious and nice, and the underground parking was excellent. The location was good too, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The door mechanism feels dated. Using keys to open and close doors is too noisy, and other guests just slam theirs. It needs an upgrade to keyless entry.

The room was clean, quiet, and well equipped, and breakfast was good. It had been a really hot day, though, and there was no air conditioning. They had provided a fan, which eventually cooled the room down when I set it on the window ledge.
