Le Méridien Frankfurt

The breakfast chef took real care over the spread, regularly checking the food and making sure the presentation was impeccable. There were beautifully presented small plates and a fantastic selection. The room was very new and modern, and the people at this hotel were the friendliest I met on my trip to Frankfurt.

The staff were extremely courteous and helpful, but I still wouldn’t return. Although the hotel has been recently renovated and looks smart, it wasn’t comfortable. The room was so cold I couldn’t sleep, and it was tiny enough that walking to the bed meant brushing against the curtain or wall. The desk was very small too. The bathroom looked like a stylish closet, with no room even to put my beauty case by the sink.

This was the worst hotel experience I’ve had in Germany, and I regret choosing it for a two-night business trip. My company had arranged and paid for the stay, but the hotel repeatedly acted as though my booking wasn’t on the system. I arrived around 3PM on the first day and checked in. The receptionist took a 100 euro deposit from my credit card and said it would be returned 2-3 days after checkout. Then, around 5PM, a receptionist knocked and demanded to see my room key, saying the room wasn’t booked and I needed to bring my documents downstairs to prove I had reserved it. Another receptionist checked my ID, said the system had an error and there was no name attached to the room, then registered everything again and returned my key. At 7AM the next morning, a uniformed woman knocked heavily on my door. When I opened it, she said I was late for a pickup service and she had come to get me. I hadn’t booked any service, but she said a colleague had given her that information. I told her I hadn’t booked anything and shut the door. It was rude, especially so early. I was upset, but had a long day ahead and didn’t go downstairs to complain. The interruptions continued. At 4.45PM, I went back to leave my laptop and get ready for a company dinner. I was in the bathroom with its door shut when someone knocked and immediately opened my room door. I was shocked and a bit scared. When I came out, the same woman was there with another man. She asked if I was staying that night, and I said yes: my company had paid for two nights, and I’d leave the next morning. She again said there was no name in the system. I asked her to check with her colleagues downstairs because I was definitely staying two nights and leaving early on the third day, and told her not to disturb me again. She then asked if I needed room service. I’d never had a hotel ask that before; if I haven’t put up a do-not-disturb sign, I need it. I said they could clean the room in 10 minutes, once I was ready. Having room service at 5PM seemed ridiculous. When I got back at 10PM, after the room service they’d offered, the empty shampoo bottle had been removed but not refilled. I’ve never experienced such unprofessional treatment. Hotels shouldn’t intrude on a customer’s privacy like this, by asking to see ID, disturbing them early in the morning, or entering their room without permission. I’ll never return. It was unacceptable, rude, and the worst experience of my life.

The gated parking was a real plus, with convenient access and an added sense of security. The hotel’s central location is handy, though being right by Frankfurt’s main train station comes with the usual downsides. I’ve stayed here several times, but even with Platinum status I’ve never received a room upgrade, which left me feeling that my loyalty wasn’t recognized. The rooms are dated, as seems common at many Le Méridien properties, though everything worked. I also found it disappointing that there was neither a coffee machine nor a kettle in the room, which feels behind the times for this category. It’s an okay choice for a short business stay, but the old rooms, sparse in-room amenities, and limited recognition for frequent guests make it average rather than memorable.
