Hotel Luxor felt more like a run-down hostel to me. It was dirty, badly maintained, and smoking seemed to be allowed everywhere. We ended up there because the hotel we had booked told us on arrival day that it was full and arranged this place instead, leaving us to accept it or find something else at twice the price. I’ve stayed in much cleaner non-smoking hostels near central Frankfurt for 50 euros. For the same money, look around the main railway station. Don’t make our mistake. 😉

I arrived for a business trip on 15 September and was shown three rooms, all filthy and in terrible shape. Room 406 had a cracked sink, black mould in the bath, cigarette burns, grey towels that were meant to be white, stains down the bedroom wall, a dirty cot, marked carpets, and a stale sweat and cigarette smell. Room 3 was just as bad, and room 412 was the last straw, with stained bedding, a filthy bathroom, and carpets I wouldn’t put a dog on. I’ve never seen a place this bad, and calling it a hotel feels generous. I complained at reception, but the rooms they offered were no better. I eventually crossed the road and found somewhere else. I booked through Jet Set holidays, whose German agents were useless. Their emergency number didn’t work and kept cutting me off, so I could have been stranded. The website is a sham: there was no bar, service, cleaning, or standard. Do not use this place.

In 30 years of travelling, I’ve never stayed anywhere dirtier. There were holes in the walls, a grimy bathroom, stained sheets, and hair everywhere. Avoid it.
