Mercure Hotel & Residenz Frankfurt Messe

The bar staff, Nadine & Asli, were fantastic and easily the best part of the hotel. The location is handy for the messe, though there isn’t much else nearby. The corner rooms in particular are big enough, and the facilities were okay. The shower was a bit broken, but I could live with that. Cleaning was the real problem. I stayed Friday to Friday, and the room was cleaned on Saturday. By 5 pm Tuesday it still hadn’t been cleaned again. At reception I was told it would be cleaned at check-in and then check-out. I said that was pretty gross and sad, and the receptionist agreed management were cutting corners and apologized. They did arrange a clean for the next day and bring fresh towels, but at a Mercure, especially with show-day prices at the messe, should guests have to ask? There were half-drunk drinks and chocolate yogurts in the fridge when I checked in. A photo attached says rooms can be cleaned on request, but they certainly didn’t seem glad to do it. Reception staff apologizing for management cutting corners is why I’m giving three stars.

The staff made this company-provided two-night stay much more pleasant. A special mention to the Front Office Manager, or possibly the General Manager, from Morocco, who was always smiling, friendly, and quick to handle even simple requests. The rooms were decent and the breakfast buffet was good, though the choices were somewhat limited. I did ask for an iron and ironing board in the room, but they never arrived.

Booked through Dayuse.com for a stopover, and it worked very well. Public transport was close by, the service was excellent, and the room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The Wi-Fi was good, and I really appreciated the complimentary bottle of water.

The bar and restaurant were good, and staff were very nice. Public transport nearby made for good connections to Frankfurt city centre. The rooms are a little dated, and the pillows were very thin, with only two in the double room.
