Movenpick Hotel Frankfurt City

Our group’s arrival was a mess. The rooms hadn’t been reserved properly, we waited a long time, and then some of us were sent to rooms that already had other guests in them. Those guests were understandably frightened, and it caused real distress. The room cleanliness was also well below a basic standard. There was hair left in the bathroom and old food in the fridge. At reception, three people came across more like nightclub PR staff than hotel workers. They seemed inexperienced, handled situations badly, and were rude even when the hotel was clearly responsible. The place seems to rely on steady group bookings and has grown complacent. A real shame, and I doubt that will work for long.

The one bright spot was Stephanus at the bar. He was extremely friendly and gave excellent service, which made our evening there enjoyable. The hotel is in a safe, quiet area, though the restaurant was closed for dinner. The room felt old and not very clean. The doona cover didn’t fit, a light was broken, and the notepad had wine stains. There was also an empty beer bottle by the lift for more than 24 hours. At reception, the staff were rude and unhelpful. When I asked about chocolate hour, the woman looked confused and the male receptionist brusquely said they didn’t offer it and I could buy chocolate in the lobby. We booked partly so our son could enjoy chocolate hour, which the website advertised. As a gold Accor member, I was very disappointed. This didn’t feel like a four-star hotel or a Mövenpick, and I’ve stayed at better Mercure, ibis and ibis style hotels during my last two weeks in Germany.

Handy for a quick stop, with a mall nearby and an area that felt fairly safe. It’s easy enough to walk around, though a bit farther from the train station. The hotel feels dated for a Mövenpick, so it doesn’t have the look and feel I’d expect from others in the brand. Fine for a night, but I wouldn’t stay longer.

The service was awesome, and breakfast was delightful with plenty of choices. The location is perfect, and there are restaurants nearby. The hotel restaurant didn’t have enough options for me. My room was clean, though it could use a few upgrades, like a smart TV with apps such as Netflix for personal entertainment.
