I stayed one night and had a really bad experience. There was a strong cigarette smell throughout the room and the hallway just outside, even though the room was advertised as non-smoking. That was very uncomfortable and unacceptable for a non-smoking property. Around 10 p.m., there was loud talking and noise from things falling in the hallway. I thought it was probably staff, since a service or utility room was directly across from our door. It made it impossible to relax or sleep. We raised the smoke, noise and too-small bed with the receptionist, but she wasn’t helpful. She said our only option was to pay another €300 for a suite, with no complimentary upgrade, compensation or other reasonable solution. I asked if we could cancel and move to the hotel across the street, but she said we couldn’t because we’d already checked in. There was no flexibility or customer care despite the problems. Given our stay, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. For somewhere with such a high rating, the service, cleanliness and overall experience were deeply disappointing.

From Sweden, my husband and I stayed at The Flag Oskar M from April to November for a business trip. It was a really good experience. The location was ideal, and our room was cosy, clean and well looked after. The whole place had a warm, welcoming feel. The staff were attentive, friendly and ready to help. Marco, Jose and the others at the front of house were awesome! I also want to thank housekeeping, who were always kind and helpful to me. Our stay wouldn’t have gone so smoothly without them. I feel bad that we didn’t leave them a tip when we checked out. We’d definitely stay again and recommend the place 🙏🏼🥹

After three nights at The Flag Oskar M, I left feeling well rested. The calm atmosphere was the standout for me: I barely heard anything from the hall or nearby rooms, even at busy check-in times. My third-floor room faced a small courtyard, so there was no street noise. There are no TVs in the rooms, which suited the quiet feel, and books are available to borrow along with a Bluetooth speaker. I even slept through my alarm one morning, something I haven’t done in years. The room was a cosy superior double with floor-to-ceiling windows and soft daylight. Its simple Scandinavian-inspired decor had white walls, warm wood and exposed brick details. After meetings around the city, or a walk around Römerberg and coffee in Sachsenhausen, it was a lovely place to come back to. The bed was very comfortable, with a plush king-sized mattress, crisp linens and a light duvet that suited the chilly autumn weather. There were firm and soft pillow options, and I mixed them for good neck support. The bathroom was small but had a rain shower and Aesop products. Even the desk chair was comfortable enough for late-night emails. Service felt friendly and low-key. At breakfast, the staff remembered I liked strong black coffee. The café has simple fresh food, including avocado toast on sourdough. At around €150 a night, the rate seemed reasonable for the location. The hotel is tucked into a quieter part of the bustling Bahnhofsviertel, but the main station is still about a ten-minute walk away. It was just what I needed after a hectic week of meetings. Not flashy, just restful. 9/10, I’ll come back for the quiet.

Breakfast was okay, though there weren’t many filling options that weren’t sugary. The bigger problem was the smoke smell in our room. We opened the windows, but it was still there the next day.
