Hotel Schopenhauer Hof

My room was fantastic, with a romantic view over the river, and the Christmas market was close by. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and there was plenty of choice at breakfast. The rooms were clean, with daily cleaning available. I’ll attach pictures of the breakfast buffet.

It was hard to leave Frankfurt when I was enjoying the clean, comfortable room with its lovely furnishings and river view, plus the delicious breakfast buffet. The hotel is close to tourist attractions and tram, U, and bus stops. Staff were very polite, and I thought it was very good value for money.

On our last night, we went to the bar to order drinks. The receptionist handling it took orders from other guests, told us to “wait one minute,” then never came back. We stood there for about five minutes holding the menu where she could see us, while she stayed at reception acting busy and ignoring us. Her behavior felt openly disrespectful and left a very negative impression. It spoiled what should have been a pleasant final night, and I won’t stay here again. This was my second visit, which made the experience more disappointing. The other staff were polite and professional. The male receptionist on the previous night did his job perfectly, making the contrast even more striking.

Sonny at the front desk made us feel welcome from the start. He was amazing, smiling and full of useful tips, and helped with questions about tram tickets and hidden gem cafes. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with plush bedding, modern touches, plenty of room to spread out, and floor-to-ceiling windows looking over the skyline and classic gabled rooftops. The sunsets lit up the walls beautifully. We started our German trip in Frankfurt, and Hotel Schopenhauer Hof was a sleek, welcoming place to recover after the transatlantic flight. Getting around was easy. The old town was just steps away, with cobbled streets and excellent restaurants serving schnitzel and Riesling, so we wandered back there nightly. The main cathedral was around the corner, and there were markets, walks along the Main, and a great mix of history and city life. We’ll toast Sonny when we’re back. Prost to a lovely start!
