The staff struck me as extremely nice and capable. The rooms have a nostalgic feel, and breakfast was sufficient, though I'm not much of a breakfast person, so I'm not the one to recommend or criticize it. The restaurant is clearly missing at the moment, but it sounds like they're working on it, and once My first real memory of this hotel goes back to the late 1970s, when my aunt got married here. After that came years of family occasions: birthdays, more weddings, funerals, reunions, and casual get-togethers. So yes, I'm biased about the place. Even without that connection, I tend to prefer owner-run hotels, restaurants, and bars over group business concepts.

The hotel has a sweet, old-fashioned character and a great location, even if Göttingen itself wasn't really worth visiting. Our room was spacious, clean, and quiet, with a big, comfortable bed. The bathroom had no outside window, and its ceiling fan barely helped, so we had trouble clearing the odours. Breakfast also felt a little stingy. When we asked if they could refill the scrambled eggs, it almost seemed like we'd made an unreasonable request. Still, we had a very pleasant stay.

It's very close to the train station, and the entrance looks gorgeous. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and elegant, and everything was clean. Breakfast came with lots of options and was very well served. Very good and comfortable, about as much as you could hope for from a hotel.

The decor and atmosphere felt a bit staid. Some may like that, but I prefer modern surroundings. My room was quiet, and breakfast thankfully starts early, at 6:30AM. Göttingen is Göttingen, so expectations may need managing.
