St Pauli Lodge - Guesthouse

The room was generally clean, and there's a bus stop fairly close by. The location wasn't too bad, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. We had a terrible welcome. No staff were at the hotel to give us the room or check us in, and we never received important information we were supposed to get. Communication was poor, we struggled to find our room, and couldn't reach the staff. The room smelled bad, so we opened the only small window, which was difficult to open, and hoped the odor would go away. The bathroom was tiny. Water sprayed all over it from the shower, which had only a small, useless plastic curtain, and the sink was barely large enough to wash our hands. The Wi-Fi barely worked, and staff never came to fix it.

I could barely sleep because the air was so hard to breathe with the window shut. The room smelled strongly of mould and cleaning chemicals, and there were mould stains on the wall. The sheets had the same damp smell, as if they hadn't dried fully. The old window wasn't renovated, closed poorly, and let in sound. I left early the morning after one night and lost the money paid for two nights. It ruined my whole weekend.

The room was really nice, a bit romantic, and had a perfect shower that was wide and warm. The price is pretty cheap by German standards. You get a code for the apartment, the key is in the door, and you pay when you want to. It's close to the party place, reeperbahn, and Ericka's eck is nearby for cheap, delicious food. The woman there is weird and not very fast, and the tables all have reserved signs even though they're often not reserved. I'm going back to Hamburg.

The place was clean and well located, near schanze and the reeperbahn. But it was small, and the paper-thin walls meant we heard more than our fair share. The breakfast place they recommended was closed, and the place didn't feel personal. It was pretty pricey for what it is, so I wouldn't stay again if I returned to Hamburg.
