The Scotty Hotel Hamburg

The location is convenient, near Berliner Tor and the city center. Rooms are spacious with good storage, and the bathroom was nice. They cleaned my room every day.

The neighborhood was awful, and the room had little to make up for it. The furniture tried to look modern, but the “desk” barely held a mobile phone. There was no coffee or tea setup, no fridge, and the safe was tiny. The glass shower walls leaked. I booked just one night and was glad it wasn’t longer. In December the heating didn’t work. Nobody mentioned that at check-in. I had to go up to the 7th floor, find the room freezing, then return to the desk and hear that “there is a problem with the aircon.” They handed me a tiny portable electric heater, which was utterly inadequate and made loud noises all night. I wondered why I’d picked this hotel. Stay away.

The breakfast buffet was the highlight, with better quality and more choice than other hotels in the same price range. Staff were very friendly and helpful too. We stayed one night as a family of four, and the room was clean and in good condition. The shower did flood a bit, but it was manageable and didn’t soak the whole bathroom. We had no trouble with noise from outside or other rooms overnight.

The room was neat, with a huge bed and pleasant bedding that seemed like new. The hotel is next to the infamous Zombieland just outside the train station, said to be the most dangerous place in Hamburg and one of Germany’s worst neighborhoods. Be aware before booking. If you’re okay with that, there’s also no shower drain and the entrance door has poor soundproofing.
