Hotel Continental Hamburg

The room was clean and nice, and the location was great. Breakfast was small, but there was something for everyone, so that was fine. Check-in was a little tricky because the English skills weren’t great, but we managed to understand each other in the end.

I arrived before check-in time, and the receptionist refused to speak to me, saying, “I am not a hotel guest yet … and in Germany there are rules.” Hotels everywhere have rules, but guests are still guests. I’ve never encountered such a rude, disrespectful receptionist. I’m sure I’ll never come back, and I’d advise anyone with dignity to avoid this hotel.

The staff were friendly, and the room was clean, though small. Breakfast is self-service, with things like bread, milk, and cereal. There’s no refrigerator in the room. The hotel also has a tiny elevator that fits two people at a time.

It’s about a two-minute walk from the train station, so the location couldn’t be better. We stayed in December, and the price felt very reasonable for the location and standard. The rooms were clean, and my daughter was happy to have a proper bed instead of the sofa bed you often get. Continental breakfast was included, with plenty for all of us, including my four-year-old and my husband, who has coeliac disease. There were meats, cheeses, yogurt, boiled eggs, bread, salad, and more. We’d definitely stay again. One note: call the hotel if you need something. I emailed about changing my check-in day and got no reply, but when I called, a helpful staff member sorted it out within ten minutes.
