Boardinghotel Heidelberg

The apartment was spacious and well furnished, with a kitchen, bathroom and enough room for me to comfortably do a Tai Chi set. The lift is pretty slow, so walking may be quicker if you're going up or down. We stayed while visiting Heidelberg and the surrounding area. It's in a quiet, pleasant neighborhood with lots of supermarket options and restaurants or cafes.

We stayed in July 2023, and this was good value for the price, especially with a spacious room, kitchen and free public street parking. The bathroom was fairly large, and the kitchen had silverware. Spaces right by the entrance were limited, though. If you're driving, the old town is about a 15-minute trip away. The hotel is quite far from the center, so walking isn't really practical. The surroundings felt industrial, with automotive businesses, and weren't especially cozy. Noise between rooms was another issue. The soundproofing wasn't very good, so we could hear neighboring guests when they were loud. The AC was also frustrating: it stayed at full fan speed, and the fixed wall unit only let us adjust the temperature. Cold air blew right at the bed, making sleep uncomfortable. We opened the windows for air instead, but there were no insect screens, and a few mosquitoes got in overnight. The shower temperature also fluctuated between too hot and too cold, probably because hot water was being shared at busy times. Despite these drawbacks, the roomy space, kitchen and free parking make it a practical budget option if you have a car. Better soundproofing, AC controls and more consistent shower water would improve it.

On a long road trip, we stopped here for one night. The room was roomy and very clean, and the receptionist was kind and made sure we were comfortable. I'd definitely recommend it.

The location is a little far from downtown and the place can be hard to find, but it's clean and easy enough to reach by tram. We arrived after the office had closed, yet the manager was kind, easy to contact and quick to respond. They had an after-hours check-in process and, since we'd said there would be three adults, they had already made up the sofa bed. I was really grateful, especially so late at night when we didn't want to make another bed ourselves.
