Hotel Am Rathaus

After water damage at the hotel we’d originally booked, we were able to switch here at very short notice. The rooms are dated, but roomy and impeccably clean. The staff were so incredibly friendly that I’d give them six stars if I could. With the location in the middle of the old town, a great breakfast, and solid mattresses, we had a very good experience.

The buffet breakfast was great, and the three staff members my family met were warm and went out of their way to help. Our rooms looked worn and dated, but they were clean and pleasant. There’s no elevator, so hauling a lot of luggage means some exercise. I was glad we got a first-floor room. The old town location is phenomenal and an easy walk from Heidelberg-Altstadt train station. You can hear street noise, but being right in the center and having complete silence is a tough combination. I thought it was great value and would stay again, especially for the warmth, charm, and reasonable price.

A simple, cozy place and a great base for visiting Heidelberg. The staff were very kind and efficient. A great choice!

The staff, location, and vibe all earned five stars from me. It’s a quaint hotel in a beautiful city, and around €100/night felt like great value for where it is. Breakfast is continental and good enough. We parked at P12, a three-minute walk away. It was convenient, though we expected €10 per day and paid €18.50 for less than 24 hours. Maybe the hotel has other suggestions. Most things in Germany have got quite expensive. One thing to know before booking: there’s a bar outside, with loud music until maybe 1 am and people talking outside. On the first floor I could feel the bass. If you’re sensitive to noise, bring a white noise app, earplugs, or headphones, as I don’t think the hotel provides earplugs. If the nighttime music is okay with you, this is a great find. We’d come back if we’re in town again.
