Hotel Tannhäuser

I’ve stayed at this hotel three times on different dates. It has a lot of charm, with clean, mostly spacious rooms and modern bathrooms. The stairwell and breakfast area have a lovely patina, and breakfast is good. It’s centrally placed, though the busy intersection brings streetcars and partygoers, so it isn’t as quiet as I’d like. Bike storage is available, but it isn’t very good. The morning staff at breakfast and checkout are super friendly and helpful. The afternoon/evening check-in gentleman was neither friendly nor helpful. He couldn’t sort out my requests or questions, so I’ve taken off a star because he hadn’t done his homework.

The main drawback was the stairs: the hotel has six floors and no elevator, and my single room was at the top. Carrying two suitcases up was quite a hike. The building is a bit dated, like me, but the rooms are spotless and well worth the price. Service is personal and friendly, and breakfast is freshly prepared in a really nice buffet style.

They charged us more at payment than the amount agreed when we booked, which was unacceptable. For the price, it really wasn’t worth it. Nights were very noisy, and in summer it was hot with no air conditioning. Breakfast was average to poor.

I left feeling angry, sad, and disappointed with how I was treated. My fiancé and I checked in at 10 p.m. on 19.09.2017 after meetings in another town, and the hotel agreed to a late checkout at 12:30 the next morning. But at 11, room service knocked and rudely told us to leave immediately. I explained the agreed time, then a woman from reception came to the door and repeated that we had to check out right away. I gave up, packed, and went to check out. The receptionist wouldn’t look at me or listen to what had been agreed the night before. Later, when my fiancé returned to collect the luggage, the receptionist said the late-checkout information was supposed to have been passed on. There was no apology to me. My fiancé was only told that the evening receptionist was getting bad feedback for the mistake.
