Weinhaus Henninger

The food and wine selection was great, and it had a definite fine dining feel. We were told we needed a reservation for four on Sunday at 1300, but apparently we didn’t. They seated us alone in the back room even though only four tables were occupied, less than a third of the restaurant. Staff spoke only German. The interior was dark, and there was indoor seating only.

A very good restaurant, and I enjoyed my stay. The rooms are spacious, bright, and very clean, and they look like they were renovated fairly recently. The hotel grounds are tidy and well maintained, with guest parking at the back.

The cherry sauce with the calf liver was nice, and thanks for the espresso, but that was about all I enjoyed. The pork cheeks looked like a very small portion in the dark. There’s no lighting at all at the tables on the terrace, and by the time our mains came, it was properly dark. We’d booked the inner courtyard, but on arrival they led us through it, past empty tables, and put us on the outside terrace. I was ready to leave and should have. Service took ages after we ordered. The potato soup starter arrived, then nothing for a long time. When we asked what was taking so long, the kitchen sent an amuse-bouche, which was the very same potato soup in a smaller portion. After 30 years, this seems to have been our last visit. I’m very disappointed. The second star is for the cherry sauce.

The food was okay, and the male waiter was excellent. The female service, though, was a disaster. She was very stroppy and cheeky, and gave an evil look when a guest said “excuse me,” replying, “yes I heard you.” I can’t believe that still happened. They weren’t very nice to me either.
