Pension Harleshausen

Getting there by car is awkward, and finding the place can take some effort. It’s only a two-minute walk from the main roads, though. Inside, it’s a small, clean, pleasant guesthouse, with its own kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom, almost like a little apartment.

The flat had three rooms and space for six people, which made things a bit inconvenient. My room was clean, and so was the kitchen. It had a stove with an oven, a microwave, and a TV; each bedroom had a TV too. Free Wi-Fi was available.

We won’t be back. We were two people in a three-bed room, and the bed in the middle hadn’t been made. We’re a married couple, so we didn’t need a bed between us. The TV cables were dangling all over the place. Maybe that suits some people, but not us. There was also food left in the fridge by previous guests. We didn’t enjoy the stay, and that’s just our honest opinion.

For €75, all you get is a basic room, a shared bathroom, no desk or private wastebasket, and no breakfast. Is that the Documenta price? The bathroom didn’t even have a light switch I could find, so I had to use my phone flashlight. That made the place feel truly awful. What kind of guesthouse leaves you lighting the bathroom with your phone?
