The location was lovely, and our group was there for a seminar. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, but the food was the main problem. It was extremely poor in quality and unappetizing, even though there were several people working in the kitchen. Many participants ended up vomiting during the night. The rooms were disappointing too, with floors that looked unhygienic and hadn't been properly cleaned. I hope action is taken and more care is given to food quality and cleanliness.

The location worked well for getting to Kiel by train, since it's near the HBF. The room was clean and nice, the bed and pillow were comfortable, the staff were friendly, and I really liked the breakfast and coffee. I need to cancel my membership, though. I hadn't read the fee details carefully, which was my mistake. At 26.5 years old I was lucky and only had to pay about 7 EUR, but it felt ridiculous to pay a fee when I only wanted to stay once. Being 0.5 years older would have meant paying 22.5 EUR. They said they'd send the membership card to my home in Leipzig, and I have to mail them to cancel or I'll be charged next year's fee. All that paperwork for one night, when I just wanted to enjoy my holiday.

The dorms felt a little dated, even down to the lockers that take Deutschmarks, and the ventilation wasn't great. With the window open, though, it was nice. There's also a 1am to 7am curfew when you can't enter or leave the building. Staff were friendly, if not always very clear, and breakfast was decent with plenty to eat. I had to pay about 10€ extra per night because I wasn't a member. Even with those quirks, the price was reasonable and I slept and ate well. It was one of the last places available when I booked, so I'm grateful I found it and will probably come back.

A good, inexpensive place to stay near the harbour and a supermarket. The rooms are clean, and each has its own locker at no extra charge. Breakfast was really good.
