Hotel Weinhaus Grebel

The room was better than I expected and could comfortably fit a third person, although the furniture was dated but still acceptable. The hotel is in a warm old house not far from the river, with friendly staff at reception and during breakfast. Parking in the backyard is free, and the service and rooms deserve a better rating. The entrance on each floor could use improvement. My main complaints are the stairs, since there's no elevator, and the bed, which could be better.

We checked the room on arrival and it looked nothing like the pictures. The bathroom was basically in the bedroom, there was mold in the toilet, and all the furniture was antique. When we asked the staff about it, they just shrugged and offered another room. That one was dirty too, with hair in the shower and black marks on the bed. When we went back, they said, "well, we can cancel if you don't like our hotel". A place to avoid at any cost.

It was hard to sleep: the bed was small and uncomfortable, the room was incredibly hot, and I could hear every conversation from downstairs and the neighboring rooms. The bathroom clearly hadn't been cleaned, with dirt in the cup by the sink, hair on the floor and in the shower, and a half-used toilet roll. Staff were almost never around when we needed them, perhaps because they were short-staffed, though they were mostly friendly when we did see them. I'm quite appalled.

The room was plain but comfortable, and the restaurant served good food. It's a quiet, basic hotel set just up the street from the busy main road.
