A nice, small place for a few days. They spoke English and were friendly, and it’s close to Castle Burg and Mayen.

The festival grounds were only about 20 minutes away, and Hotel Gilles was a lovely place to stay for our night during the Rar Festival. We felt comfortable from the start. The rooms were very clean, and we had excellent food at the hotel restaurant. Everyone was so friendly, attentive, and helpful, from reception through to the service staff. We felt welcome and well looked after the whole time.

It has the feel of a proper country inn, with good food and accommodation, plus a function room and bowling alley. What felt odd was that the room hire fee had tripled in the few days between our viewing and our booking request. More than 20 couples from nearby, who could have become regular diners, are now disappointed. That doesn’t seem like a smart move.

We’d happily come back anytime. The place is centrally located but still wonderfully quiet, and the hospitality mixes refinement with real warmth, which is hard to find these days. It’s a great choice if you like being active outdoors and want lots to see and learn nearby.
