Hotel Bad Schachen

The location is good, but that’s about the only positive I can find. This was probably the most disappointing hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and I’ve stayed in some bad ones. At over 300 euros a night, I expected at least a small fridge, a kettle, and air conditioning. Instead, the beds were the hardest my wife and I have ever slept on, and we both had shoulder pain after lying on them. The pillows were uncomfortable too. The room was over 30°C and far too hot to sleep in. Cleaning staff brought a small fan, but it didn’t help. The bathroom was tiny and ancient, with an ugly, impractical feel rather than any charm. I honestly can’t name one good thing about the room. The pool was dirty, so neither of us could swim. The “beach” was in a desolate state, with unmowed grass and broken loungers covered in bird droppings, which is a health hazard. We were also only told about the parking fee at checkout, not when checking in. I’ve never been asked to pay for parking at a hotel in this price range, and keeping it quiet until checkout felt dishonest and greedy. The restaurant was poor. The steak tasted like wet rubber, and my wife’s pasta dish was mostly rucola with very little pasta. You’d get a much better meal and friendlier service at any nearby restaurant. Breakfast was okay, but the same items every day and very little variety made it boring. The location is good, but the same could be said of a cardboard box near the Bodensee. I’d advise others to be smarter than we were and avoid booking this old, run-down hotel.
