Set in a beautiful historic neighborhood, this historic hotel felt bright and warm. A wonderful place.

I had a pleasant stay at Hotel zur alten Stadtmauer during the last two weeks of January 2023. The location is excellent, and the hotel serves a nice buffet breakfast each morning. It’s family-friendly and run a little like a hostel: they’ll clean your room, but only if you request it, which keeps the rates very reasonable. My room and bed were comfortable, it was quiet, and I had a nice view to the south. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

The location is pretty much perfect, and the cozy, lovely feel extends to the rooms. They’re on the small side, but have everything you need. I love the breakfast, which makes you feel very welcome. I can imagine the hotel wouldn’t suit anyone who has trouble with stairs, since there’s no lift.

The back garden, the cat, and the artwork all add to the hotel’s unique feel. The rooms are spacious and simply furnished, but have everything you could need. The location is perfect, and the hotel is even better than it looks online. Breakfast is exceptional.

The owners and staff are wonderful and really try to help. Breakfast is served in a lovely sunroom. The pension is small and family-run, though the rooms and bathrooms are a bit cramped, the beds are very firm, and there are lots of stairs with no lift. If you’re after creature comforts, this probably isn’t the place for you.
