H4 Hotel München Messe

The staff were friendly, and the rooms were clean and comfortable, but I’d rate this as three stars rather than four. The bar is comfortable and the staff there were good. Its menu is limited to a burger, club sandwich, or salad. They tasted good, though they were quite expensive, and a few more choices would have been welcome. I didn’t try the restaurant. In the room, you have to bring your own water after the one tiny bottle on the first day, and coffee and milk aren’t replenished daily. Rooms are serviced only every three days, which would be fine if supplies were kept up. There’s a fridge, so I bought what I needed at a supermarket. It all feels done on a minimal budget: the towels are small, old, and hard, and the bathroom toiletries are just handwash by the sink and a combined shampoo and body wash in the shower. With so many obvious cost cuts, I wonder whether the staff have decent working conditions and wages.

We won’t return. They wouldn’t be flexible when I asked to shorten the stay, and the first room they offered smelled strongly of drains. The bathroom ventilation was weak, and there was very little light for reading or writing. No information explained how to contact reception or housekeeping, and the number shown on the TV homepage didn’t work. Rooms weren’t cleaned unless you insisted for three days in a row. When I asked someone to check the TV, nobody came. It felt extremely stingy: we got just one coffee each and one small bottle of water for all four nights.

It was a very bad stay. There was no tap water in the bathroom on the first day. On the second, they asked me to move rooms, so I had to carry all my things over again. The new room wasn’t even clean, with lots of fungus around the refrigerator. I just counted down the time until the final night was over.

The restaurant was the highlight, with delicious food and outstanding service, five-plus stars. It’s a convenient short walk to ICM München and a shopping center, with a park nearby that’s good for jogging or even swimming in the lake 😏. The metro ride into the city center takes about 20-30 minutes.
