Hotel MIO by AMANO

We had a great five-day stay at the Mio in Munich, and would happily stay at a Mio hotel again. It’s small, with a bar and breakfast area, but the location is perfect, right in the historic center and close to everything we wanted to see and do across the city. The room was very quiet, with comfortable beds, and was a good size. It was also very clean, and we appreciated the bottles of water.

Hotel Mio by AMANO is such a cute place, with a pretty blend of quaint and modern design. The room had a fridge, safe, Nespresso machine and pods, bottled water, hairdryer, shampoo, and body soap. REWE is right next door, and Marienplatz is a short, pleasant walk away, far enough to avoid the crowds. There’s one staff member to help with whatever you need, and they’re all so nice, friendly, and helpful. Highly recommend!

The room was called “comfy,” but it was nowhere near that. A shoebox would have been bigger. The shower was over a tub with such high sides that getting in and out felt like a real fall risk. We had no service or help when we arrived, just instructions to check ourselves in and make our own room keys, with no friendly face in the lobby. With a bigger room and staff available to help, this could have been an amazing place to stay.

The shopping and market area was the only reason I gave this one star. The room was extremely small and plain, with no fridge. The bed was comfortable enough, but the shower was dangerous because you had to climb over an unusually high tub edge, and the water pressure was very low. There’s no nearby parking, so with luggage or shopping you have to park somewhere else and drag everything across a crowded street in several trips. We saw no staff at all, despite reviews mentioning them. Check-in is all online, and it felt strange and isolating. There was nobody to ask for water or help. The entrance hall always smelled strongly of sour wine. During our stay, a private party in the bar was incredibly loud, like a nightclub, booming and shaking late into the night. The place looked much nicer on booking.com, which was misleading. Choosing this hotel was a big mistake.
