Noam S.
The room and the hotel setup were nice, but the way things are handled made the stay feel unsafe and like a serious invasion of privacy. I sent management the email below because several processes seemed broken. I wanted to include their unsatisfactory reply too, but Google Maps reviews have a length limit. They need to fix these problems for this to be a good hotel. I’m staying at MK hotel in Munich City and wanted to raise a few concerns. The front desk staff didn’t seem particularly empowered to help. The hotel itself is really nice, which is why I’m reaching out. The biggest concern is the key card machine outside, on the street. Anyone can get a key to my room by entering my last name and date of birth, even after I’ve checked in. Someone who knows or can look up my birthday and age could get into my room while my belongings are inside. That information is often available online. This is dangerous. Schneier on Security’s blogpost “The Security Mindset” explains how to think systematically about situations like this, though this should be obvious without a blogpost. The cleaning policy was also confusing. The signs suggest rooms are cleaned only on request, which seems good for the environment, but my room was unexpectedly cleaned multiple times despite my “do not disturb” sign. I put it up because my belongings were lying around and I had valuables in the room. The safe wasn’t working. The cleaner even folded the dirty underwear I’d left on the floor and put it on the bed. She may have been doing her job well, but I want to know when someone is going into my room, especially when I’ve put a sign on the door. It felt like a major privacy violation, and with the faulty safe, I worried about my possessions. There was a desk sign saying rooms are typically cleaned every two days, but it’s double-sided. The German side faced me when I entered, and I didn’t realize the other side was in English. I wasn’t going to auto-translate every sign, so I ignored it. That was a big mistake. I don’t think anything was taken, but I’d left my wallet with hundreds of euros in the room because I assumed nobody would enter with the do not disturb sign up. Someone could have taken money or valuables. That felt very unsafe. A couple of other things bothered me. Most messages from the hotel were in German, even though I booked through booking.com and communicated with them in English. And the safe didn’t work. I think a previous guest may have left it locked, but its instructions were cryptic, so maybe I didn’t use it properly. I didn’t ask for help because I was always in a hurry, didn’t find the staff especially helpful, and expected the room not to be entered because the elevator sign said cleaning was by request and I’d left the do not disturb sign up. That’s all. The hotel itself was really nice, but this whole experience felt canny and unsafe. You seem to take hospitality seriously, so I wanted to let you know.

We were very happy with our five-day stay. The staff were friendly, and the customer service was excellent. A really pleasant experience.

The rooms were clean and modern, and the location was good. You can check in online, at the entrance kiosk, or in the adjoining brauhaus. I had a brief argument with the AI bot on WhatsApp, then got “upgraded” to a real person who sorted the problem straight away.

It’s right in the city center and the prices are affordable. Checking in by phone and using a digital key is a nice convenience. One thing to know: you need to put any card in the slot to turn on the room’s electricity. I felt a little uneasy walking around the neighborhood at night, though I didn’t see obvious neglect or criminal activity. The backyard was pretty noisy too, but luckily shutting the window helped. :)

I was here for the NFL game. The location and service were great, and I slept comfortably in a good bed. The shower was great too. Breakfast seemed reasonable for the price. My only complaint is that there’s no fridge in the room. Keep up the good work.
