Regent Hotel

I couldn't get a decent night's sleep here. There's no air conditioning, so we had to rely on an oscillating fan and keep the windows open. With no screens, bugs and mosquitoes got into the room, and a very loud bar downstairs blasted music until 2am. The cleanliness was awful too. There were stains all over the carpets, the bathroom clearly hadn't been cleaned between stays, and several linens were stained or soiled. I can't believe this is called a “4 star hotel.” Save your money and stay somewhere else. Gross.

We only needed somewhere for the day after arriving in Munich at 10AM following a six-hour bus ride. I was grumpy and felt grimy, so my husband suggested finding a place where we could leave our luggage and shower. This hotel was across the street, had a great price, and let us check in right away instead of waiting for the usual check-in time. The room was clean, the shower was good, and the bed was comfortable. There was no AC, but the fan kept the room comfortable. The woman who checked us in also recommended a restaurant, and it was delicious. A wonderful experience, and I'd definitely recommend this place.

The breakfast was the reason I gave this place three stars instead of two. There was a great selection, and the coffee machine could make pretty much any kind of coffee you wanted. The rest felt dated and a bit off. Everything seemed retro, like it came straight out of the '70s, and although it looked clean, it didn't feel clean. The minibar choices were poor, there was no AC, and the elevators were tiny and felt sketchy.

We found the hotel handy for the central train station and the underground and bus routes. The rooms were spacious, the bathrooms were a good size, and the whole place was very clean. Staff were friendly and let us leave our bags with them at both the start and end of our stay. Breakfast was a buffet of traditional European food, with lovely mini croissants. The building looks a little dated, and the entrance doesn't feel very welcoming, but it had everything we needed as a base for a city break or work trip. We'd stay again.
