We arrived after 6:00 PM to find the hotel closed, with nobody reachable and no directions to their other hotel. We had to pay far too much for another place that night. By the next day, the rooms were already occupied, so it looked like we couldn't stay and would have had to pay for another expensive hotel. Eventually they put us in one room at African and one at their other hotel. They said we hadn't come inside in time.

Breakfast was skimpy, with something missing each day, whether juice, cups, or rolls. Big cardboard boxes and an office chair sat in the hallway all week, and I wouldn't recommend the place. The room had odd house rules, including a rule that visitors could only be received in the lounge. That room, along with reception, closed at 6:00 PM. Free coffee and hot chocolate were advertised, but weren't available in the lounge after that time, so we couldn't use the offer. When I asked what we'd do if there was no hot water in the shower in the evening, the owner answered with a whiny “boo-hoo.” He acted friendly, but his replies to our questions were repeatedly cynical. Both bed sheets were stained when we arrived. They were changed, but not without another unnecessary remark.

I like that the staff are helpful when you ask for something out of the ordinary. The hotel is exceptional, and its value for money more than earns the five-star rating.

We've stayed three times and it's a good hotel. The one drawback is the older woman who runs it, who always seems unhappy about something.
