Garden Hotel

The breakfast was fine, with the usual selection, so don’t expect anything beyond that. There was only cow’s milk or yoghurt for cereal, which isn’t my preference, but no hard feelings. I survived and I’m still fine, so I gave it four stars. I stayed three nights, and the room was clean with a good bed. Like other German mid-range hotels, the shower room and toilet had a very noisy fan that came on with the light.

The little secluded garden is a lovely, peaceful spot, even though the hotel is only a five-minute walk from the Altstadt. We also enjoyed a pleasant breakfast with boiled eggs and pastries. Our room was clean and well equipped, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was good. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff: they lent us a kettle and gave us fresh milk for morning tea. We had a great overnight stop on our road trip, and it was good value. We recommend Trödelstuben for food and entertainment.

The room felt a bit stale, and a fan would have helped, especially with the higher-than-average temperatures. The hotel wasn’t responsible for the heat, though. We were very happy with the comfortable bed, nice breakfast and very good location, and the stay exceeded our expectations.

We had a brilliant city break at The Garden Hotel. It’s quiet and comfortable, with spacious, clean rooms, a pretty dining room and a delicious breakfast buffet. The price was very reasonable too. The hotel is well placed for exploring the historic centre, with cafes, restaurants and shops close by and mostly pedestrian streets that are easy to walk. It’s a 12-minute walk from the main station, and there’s a taxi rank and underground nearby.
