The hostess checked in with us every day and offered suggestions for what to do. Breakfast was well looked after too, with anything running low replenished right away. We felt very comfortable during our few days at the Aktiv Pension in January. Our room was clean and had what we needed, and we could borrow a kettle. There was also a guest fridge upstairs in the hallway for our groceries. It was our first visit, but we’ll certainly come back.

We had to find somewhere else to stay at short notice, but were still charged the full price. When we raised the issue, the owner apologized, though she and her husband seemed evasive and played down the problem. The apartment had a strong musty, moldy smell as soon as we entered, and airing it out repeatedly didn’t help. The next morning we noticed large mold stains beside the bed. Very disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

There’s plenty of free parking and a ski shed, plus good Wi-Fi and a generous breakfast. A charming little family-run guesthouse in the winter sports resort of Oberhof.

The hostess was very friendly, and the rooms were quiet and clean. Breakfast was good too.

Even though I hadn’t booked ahead and arrived after 7 pm, the lovely Mrs. Albrecht still found me a room.
