Hotel Gasthof Post

The breakfast buffet was fine, with enough choices for me. My room was basic but nice, with the shower and toilet set up as cubicles. It’s a family-run hotel a short walk from the bus and railway station, and also from the lovely old town, with its medieval buildings and impressive fortifications. Mayor Heinich Toppler is credited with building the town’s wealth at the end of the 14th century by acquiring land around it. Eventually the small town owned 400 square kilometres of land, including 180 villages, which brought in a lot of money. You can see the results today.

The room was basic, but clean, and I liked the restaurant’s atmosphere. The food and beer were great, and the staff were great too. I especially appreciated that it was just a two-minute walk from the train station. The beer garden didn’t seem to be open on the rainy day I was there. The price was economical. I recommend this guesthouse.

The breakfast was disappointing, with few choices that didn’t seem fresh, and the woman serving wasn’t friendly. The rest of the stay was fine: the service was OK, the cleaning was excellent, and the bed was very comfortable. I stayed two nights, and the location worked well, about three minutes on foot from Hauptbahnhof and around ten minutes from The Walls. There’s a hot and cold drinks machine in the hallway, which was handy.

It’s about a five-minute walk to the amazing old city. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and the food came in huge portions and was great. I stayed the night of March 22. 2025. The rooms are simple and clean.
