Hotel Seemowe

The reception gentleman remembered my name even though the hotel was full, which felt like a lovely personal touch. I was staying here while hiking the Eifelsteig and the staff treated me like royalty. The interior feels a little old-fashioned, but my room was spacious and clean. From the terrace there’s a lovely lake view and a peaceful atmosphere.

It’s a lovely spot, but the place is basic and needs updating. It was also really noisy, with tables and chairs right outside my room.

You can walk along either side of the Rur, and the scenery is stunning whatever the season. The hotel is in a beautiful spot right beside the river. The staff were pleasant, and rooms were cleaned and given fresh towels each day. The rooms are a little tired, though the bathrooms are more modern.

The hotel is in magnificent countryside, with the Aachen and Monschau Christmas markets quite close by. The place has its own bar, and the waiters were juggling service for about 40 British people, though it was a quiet time of year and the town seemed quiet too. The hotel itself is very good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room could have used a lick of paint and had no hot drink facilities, which is why I’ve given four stars. We arrived quite late, and our coach company told us there were no porters. The two waiters on duty got everyone sorted anyway. They didn’t hang around for tips, so we tipped them when we left, after I Googled German tipping culture.
