The food and drinks were amazing, which is why I’m still giving five stars. It felt a bit odd to be treated like second-class customers because we’d come in after a long hike and weren’t dressed like the other guests. We could feel it in the service, or really, the lack of it.

Frieda is a gem, and the food is outstanding. The asparagus soup was probably the best I’ve ever had, and the grilled salmon was mouthwatering. After the meal, the owner was kind and generous and brought us lots of sweets. Anyone visiting the Black Forest should go for a good meal here.

We were able to bring our dog after asking, and paid by card. There are several hiking routes right nearby, so we didn’t need to use the car. The staff were friendly and very helpful. This traditional, family-run Black Forest Gasthof serves fresh, local food that was very good. Our room was spotless and had a newly renovated bathroom, though the room itself felt a bit like stepping back in time.

We’ve stayed here at least six times on our biking trips, and it’s one of the best hotels we’ve found. The food is fantastic, the value is great, everything is spotlessly clean, and the service is excellent. It’s also in one of the nicest parts of Germany. George, mum and co, we’ll be back!
