IntercityHotel Ulm

The bed was firm, though still comfortable, and breakfast was mediocre but not bad. The gluten-free bread was bearable, definitely not good. There’s no room service, and the minibar was empty. With no AC, early July can be pretty uncomfortable. Opening the window doesn’t help much either, since the hotel sits right by Ulm main station and the noise can be intense.

The location beside the train station is a mixed blessing, especially with two huge construction projects now underway on the city side. Breakfast was fine at first, but repetitive after a few days. They do follow the towel reuse policy to a point, though when I asked for fresh towels one day, mine were taken away and not replaced. The rooms are okay, nothing special, and I didn't have a nice experience with the receptionist. The shower pressure was poor and hot water took forever to arrive. Water seemed to leak from the shower, leaving the carpet by the bathroom door wet after every use. It wouldn't dry during the day, and the carpet is discolored, so this seems to have been going on for a while.

The rooms were a decent size, neither cramped nor especially large. Our double room had one big bed rather than two. The buffet breakfast was great, and the staff were friendly. The hotel is right in the city center, almost inside Ulm central train station, with a door leading straight to the platform. We had a nice stay.

Getting to the hotel was difficult because of all the major construction around it, and we weren't given any directions or useful information with the confirmation. Then we got to a room with no AC and no fan, and it felt like there was no air to breathe. This was the most awful hotel we've ever stayed in. There were spiderwebs in the wall corners, and the bathroom had no vent. A hot shower in there could easily make you feel like you're suffocating. I'd give it zero stars.
