Me and All Hotel Ulm, by Hyatt

The rooms were clean and spacious, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the top floor, with a good range of choices and nice staff. It’s a very nice Hyatt hotel with its own concept, right in the centre of old Ulm. Step outside and you’re basically on the Main Street.

This place feels like prime real estate wasted on a dystopian kindergarten fantasy. Instead of giving travelers the services and accommodation they expect, it throws corny phrases and decorations at them everywhere, as if that might impress 13 year olds. The receptionist was so busy explaining the hotel’s informality policy that he asked for my name four times.

The rooftop restaurant and bar are nice when it isn’t raining, and the staff are nice enough. But I wish I’d known what to expect before I arrived. The rooms are tiny, basically suited to one person, and there’s no AC or fan. The windows barely open, so there’s little fresh air, and the road noise is awful. This was late September and we still couldn’t get cool air. There’s no room service or phone in the room, either. Everything is done by scanning on your cell. As a Hyatt globalist, I’m used to a different Hyatt standard, even at a Hyatt Place.

The terrace and lounge were my favorite spots for spending the evening. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, and the staff were extremely friendly. The hotel is in a perfect location and has a modern design.
