Radisson Hotel Santo Domingo

We left early and found a better place for a similar price, closer to the spots we wanted to visit. I wouldn’t come back. The room was below standard: the toilet didn’t work properly, and the air wouldn’t heat when we needed it to. We had to call for repairs, towels, and blankets. The towels were quite old, though the issues were handled promptly. Staff were generally friendly and trying their best, but Lucia at the front desk could use some training in friendliness and customer service. It was noisy at night, though it was Christmas Eve. The hotel is a bit far from the Colonial Zone, so you’ll need a taxi or Uber, around $7-10. Breakfast wasn’t worth its price for the quality. The wait staff, though, were attentive and did a good job. I don’t want to deal with room problems while on vacation, and to me this property isn’t worth what it charges.

The staff were great, and the bar was a big hit. Downtown Santo Domingo was easy to explore on foot. There are several restaurants about 5-15 minutes away, and I felt safe walking around the neighborhood after 1 a.m. I’d recommend this hotel.

Motorcycles revved outside our window all night and into the morning. With no insulation, it felt like staying above a Harley Davidson convention. The restroom had mold everywhere, and the electricity kept cutting in and out. We were afraid to ride the elevator. There was no refrigerator or microwave, and ice wasn’t available on our floor. Our room key only let us go to our own floor, so getting ice meant taking several flights of stairs. Breakfast cost extra. I’m usually not a negative person, but this hotel hit every wrong note for me. I won’t stay here again.

We arrived to find our room wasn’t ready. The manager said it would be ready soon, then had us wait in the lobby for more than an hour, with no apology. When I said we were going to Embassy Suites next door because waiting wasn’t working for me, they said okay. They didn’t offer to refund us for failing to provide a room, so we left. The place felt very inhospitable, and I’d strongly suggest not wasting your time here.
