Hostal Monte Carmelo

I liked being out at the edge of town. It was quiet and had great views, while the walk into town was easy and there were plenty of restaurants and stores. The photos are accurate, and my room was comfortable and very nice. The staff were excellent and helpful, and the included breakfast was very good. They clearly take pride in keeping the place clean, and there were beautiful flowers in the common areas. The hot water shower was good too. It's a great hostal, and I'd definitely return. The owner was so lovely, and even dropped us in town with all our bags when we were leaving. The staff were friendly, breakfast was great, and both the rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. It's a lovely, clean hostel, around a 5-10 minute walk from the town centre. I'd definitely recommend it.

It's a quiet, clean, affordable place on the hill above Baños, with friendly staff and a very nice breakfast. The owner is extremely engaged and keen to please when he's around. We liked the 10 minute walk into town through the beautiful hills, it was just the right distance for us. As with many hostels we've stayed in outside Quito, the area is very humid, and some cupboards can smell mildewy. The place is definitely kept clean and tidy, though. I'm not sure there's much anyone can do about the mildew.

I paid $20 for a single, which was a great price. The place was clean and comfortable, with good wifi, hot water, and good shower pressure. Staff were very friendly, and the location was quiet, about a 10-15 minute walk from town. It was nice to walk after dinner. I chose it based on the good reviews and wasn't disappointed. I can't recommend it enough.
