Their lunch was only $3.5 and came with a drink, a small soup, popcorn, and a main dish. The building is pretty fancy, like others have mentioned, so I was surprised the meal was that cheap given the quality and the fanciness of the place.

Breakfast was such a treat that it got us up early: fresh bread and coffee every morning, plus eggs, sausage, yogurt, granola and other choices. They were happy to handle special requests, and even packed something for our airport trip. The staff also sorted out our travel arrangements and upgraded us to a suite with a gorgeous private living room. The rooms are cosy and comfortable, and the location is just right. Most windows face into the historic building, but the quiet hours meant noise didn’t bother us. There’s no elevator, so keep that in mind when booking. We loved our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

The location is great, and the service could be nice depending on who was at the front desk. But my room was dirty, and I found spiders in it on both nights I stayed. In my opinion, Cuenca has several better options.

I loved the plants and the history of the building. It’s such a charming place, and the food was delicious with attentive service. The restaurant serves some Guatemalan dishes, which makes sense since the new owners, Mr. Luis and his family, are from Guatemala. Luis has lived in Quito for years and has 30 years of experience in hospitality. Look for the big White and Blue Guatemalan flag by the entrance, since the elegant sign can be easy to miss downtown.
