Hostal Surf Olón

The room was clean and had air conditioning, but it was pretty worn down. The bathroom was basically in the same room as everything else, so you'd need to be comfortable traveling with the other person or go solo. I felt a bit supervised and observed, which made the stay less comfortable.

I come here whenever I can, it's my favorite place in Ecuador. The staff are excellent, it's beautiful, and the new pool is so clean and relaxing.

I was there last week and fell in love with olon. Montañita is great for partying, but olon is a lovely place to relax on your own, and Montañita is only a 15-minute walk away if you want to party. The hostel was super clean and secure, and the people there are the best. I had a very good time. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did, I'm sure you will.

I would never try staying here again. I was surfing along the Ecuadorian coast and booked the hostal as a home base for 10 days. I checked in, took the room key, and headed back out along the coast. Midway through the trip, the third-party booking site sent me a nasty message saying Surf Olon had reported me as a no-show, and the money I'd paid upfront was gone to the booking site. I'm still trying to get it back. When I contacted Surf Olon, they said I couldn't stay because I'd left the room. The owner was one of the rudest people I've met. He kept talking down to me in an accusatory tone, and even after I explained what happened, he didn't care that the site had my money. I had to drive nine hours to try to sort it out, with no success. He made me return the key. I left instead of trying to get another room from him, and he wasn't getting another penny from me. I wouldn't advocate for this place for any reason. The hostal is cramped, a bit dirty, and up on the busy, loud main road. Take your money down the street to Montanita, where you can get the same prices at a world-class beach break. If I could give it 0/5 stars, I would...
