Punto Verde Ecological Guesthouse

Joos was helpful with everything and really interesting to talk to. The cats have plenty of personality too. Thanks, Joos! :) Punto Verde was a great fit for me. I wanted a quiet place to study and have space of my own, and the roomy room was a comfortable place to unwind. I’d sit in the balcony hammock looking over town and the surf. It’s one of the few places on a hill in Montanita, with some of the best views. The WiFi was good for Netflix, YouTube, and such. I was more into healthy living, surfing, martial arts, and some yoga than the party scene, though the party is just down the road if that’s what you want. It’s around a 10 minute walk down the hill to the beach and town. The hill might not suit everyone, but I liked the short hike each day, and you can get a taxi up.

The owner is very helpful, and the views over all of Montanita are the most beautiful I’ve seen. It’s an eco development with composting and dry toilets, which may be unfamiliar to some people.

My stay at Punto Verde was pretty disappointing and very expensive. The advertised price didn’t include tax, which made it cost even more, and our WiFi didn’t work at all. The host said she’d been trying to fix it for the past month. We arrived at 6am and stayed one night, but were charged for two full nights. We’d originally said we would arrive the night before, but couldn’t because of the buses. That felt like really poor form from a host, and it’s never happened to us before. There were loads of flies and bugs in the room. A mosquito net was provided, luckily, but I think the compost toilet in our room was the reason. The bed was reasonably comfortable and I slept reasonably well, and the staff were very friendly. If the price had been what we expected, I might not have been so upset.

The setting is quiet and the location is very nice, and parking is available. The service, though, wasn’t good. The hotel presents attractive information and good facilities on its website, but what it provides is very poor and it doesn’t take responsibility for what it advertises.
