For anyone doing the Quilatoa loop, the hostels along the walk seemed much better value. This place charges over $23 a night with no food included, and coffee in the morning costs $1.50. The town itself felt like a tourist trap, with people trying to take advantage of you, and that got tiring fast. The rooms were cute and had private bathrooms with hot water, though the window faced a common area and didn't feel very private. The fireplace in the room was amazing. The young guys at reception were friendly and helpful, but I found the woman dismissive.

There's not much fresh air in the rooms at night, though that seems tied to the location and the kind of building. The fireplace in the hall or in the small rooms is useful if the weather turns bad. Staff were kind, and breakfast was varied and tasty, with fruit, yoghurt, and good coffee. The sunrise viewpoint is only a few metres from the hotel. Best place to stay in the area!

The potato soup was tasty, and the grilled guinea pig was good too, even though we were disappointed to get just a quarter, the rear leg, instead of a whole one. The local pub next door was crowded, so we came here for the meal. Beer was a bit expensive at 3.5 USD for a litre, especially since the bottle said 2.5 USD. Think twice before going.

After finishing the Quilotoa loop, I'd recommend taking the bus back to Latacunga and finding somewhere nicer. We paid $56 USD for one night, by far the most expensive hostel we saw. Our private room had a window onto a brightly lit hallway that stayed lit all night. The bathroom had no running hot water, and the toilet smelled awful and wouldn't flush properly. Staff seemed completely uninterested in helping. The sauna advertised by the hostel was supposedly fully booked even though the place was empty, and they wouldn't light the fire in our room. This was supposedly the best hostel in Quilotoa.

The staff were attentive and professional, and brought everything out promptly. The fish and shrimp were magnificent, cooked just right, with tender fish and succulent shrimp.
