La Casa De Mi Sub

A lovely rooftop to spend time on, and staff who were incredibly kind. The place is very clean and great value. There are lots of local restaurants and bakeries nearby, and it’s a ten-minute walk to Main Street.

I’m writing this in October 2022. I’d avoid the place until at least January 2023. Once the construction is finished, it may be nice like the other reviews say, but at the time, staying there felt inadvisable and, with the lack of building safety, dangerous. I arrived to find a building site, which hadn’t been mentioned when I booked. Work began at 7:30 am right outside my room. Getting there meant ducking under a half-built staircase, and there were sheer drops without barriers. Much of the property was inaccessible. It’s shocking that it was open in that condition. The room was basic but usable, with a very cramped bathroom. The AC worked well and the fridge was handy. I wasn’t given the WiFi details, and the TV lost its signal. The property is a ten-minute walk from the waterfront, which isn’t a big deal in such a small town.

At 9 pm the room was still bright with daylight, which was the one issue. There was a water machine, and the people running the place were super nice.

We booked our last night in the Galapagos here for our family of five and arrived around 5:30 pm to check in. They had no room available for us and offered two rooms instead, but I declined because we have three children under ten. They asked us to wait an hour while they prepared a room. It was more like someone's house, closer to the boardwalk, but it lacked many things we needed. The host awkwardly showed us in, then left without giving us contact details or anything. There weren’t enough beds for all of us, and the room had no WiFi, towels, soap, or toilet paper. There were also rodent droppings in the room and trails of ants in the bathroom. By then, nowhere else could take our family, so we had to sleep there. We had a terrible experience with this host and had to find everything I mentioned ourselves just to get through the night. I wouldn’t recommend this place to families. We booked in March 2023, and I felt I needed to write this before our Ecuador trip was over.
