Royal Galapagos Inn

We booked the Royal Galapagos Inn hoping to save money, and were pleasantly surprised by how good the whole stay was. Everything around town was within walking distance. Our room suited the three of us perfectly, with three large, comfortable beds. The balcony looked over town and the ocean, and had two comfortable hammocks, a couch, and a desk with a chair that worked well for reading or journaling. The hosts were very accommodating, the room was clean, and breakfast was served from 7-9. We’d recommend it and would return.

Nope. If bugs, ants, and spiders aren’t your thing, stay away. Our flights got messed up, so we had to stay there, but it was a very uncomfortable night. We slept fully dressed on top of the sheets and kept all our luggage shut as tightly as possible. They told us it was rainy season and they had bugs. That wasn’t a great answer. I wouldn’t stay there again.

At first, the taxi ride from the ferry made it seem like the hotel was far from everything. Then I found a pedestrian walkway a minute down the block that connects to the main harbor street, so the location turned out to be great. The owners are a lovely couple. They checked that I was happy with my room, pointed out local sights, and said they could arrange tours if I wanted. My room was large, the bed was very comfortable, and the balcony had a nice view. The hot water and air conditioning both worked well, and the room included a generous breakfast. I’d definitely stay here again.

Breakfast was the best part: plenty of fresh fruit, good hot buns, lovely juice, scrambled eggs and granola, though the coffee was awful. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was large and clean, but had no amenities, and the bed wasn't comfortable. The air conditioning worked well, and a sea-view room has a great view. The showers were the biggest letdown, with barely a trickle of hot water and a temperature that kept changing on its own. The Royal Galapagos inn is nice, but beyond breakfast it offers little more than other places in town that cost less than half as much.
