Hotel San Francisco de Quito

The staff were nice and effective, and breakfast was decent. It was good value and well located for Centro Historico, though the area felt seedy at night. The public spaces were great, but my room was somewhat dirty. An uneven stay.

Breakfast was made to order each morning, with fresh fruit and juice, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We relied on them a lot. The hotel is close to everything, and the location felt secure. You have to buzz in and out each time, with someone at the front desk around the clock, which made us feel safe. The building dates back to the 1600s, so it's older, but very clean. Staff tidied the rooms daily and replaced towels and other things. We really enjoyed the stay and the people. I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a place with character and history.

We had large, comfortable rooms in a well secured hotel in the middle of the historic district. Reception is staffed 24 hours a day, and there was a small safe for our passports and cash. The bathroom was small. I thought the shower was good, though my wife felt the hot water wasn't hot enough. Breakfast is included from 7-9 am: eggs, fried or scrambled, with cheese, ham, jam, and bread. Tea, coffee, and juice were available too. There's also a roof deck with great city views.

The rooftop lookout takes a climb, but the view makes it worthwhile. Downstairs, the complimentary breakfast is more than bread and water, even though its room used to be a jail. The building has plenty of character, and the staff were friendly. We had eight rooms, and every one felt different. It’s an old place, so expect some noise. Step outside the entrance and you’re already in Quito’s downtown pedestrian area. A distinctive cultural stay, far from a standard hotel.
