Mesho Inn Hostel

It's listed as 'OH Pharaoh hostel' on Booking, and I noticed a lot of fake reviews there, so here's a real one. It's clean and in a great location, but there are much better places for about the same price. I booked three nights and left for another hostel after just one. The shared space is tiny, with one little table and barely anywhere to eat breakfast. There's only one small shared bathroom, and no towels. Breakfast was okay. The staff weren't especially nice or helpful: I waited about 30 minutes for the receptionist when I arrived, then saw him asleep on the sofa in the common area the next morning, taking up half the space. It's not awful, but beyond cleanliness and location, I didn't find much to recommend it.

The location is right in the city center, which worked perfectly. Everyone was really kind and helpful, especially Eslam, who even made me a great coffee. I had a fantastic stay and would definitely recommend it.

The hostel's location is handy, close to Tahir Square and the Egyptian Museum, with a famous bakery directly opposite. I couldn't find the place at first, but a nearby guy knew where it was and took me there. I visited during festival season, and the area was packed. There was loud noise late into the night, up until 2:00. My room was just okay and had a single fan. I was there in summer and would have been in real trouble without it being right above me, though I somehow got through it. Breakfast was Egyptian bread, scrambled eggs, and tea or coffee, nothing special either way. If you stay here, I'd pick a single room over a dorm.

The room felt airy, with lots of space and a high ceiling. I booked without AC, but the large balcony door let in a cool breeze, and there was also a fan at no extra cost. Rooms with AC are available for a reasonable additional price. Just watch out for mosquitoes at night. Maybe they should spray before guests book. That was my only complaint. It's a modest place in a kind of 100-year-old building, built in the Parisian style last century. The staff were kind, and the midtown location puts you near everything.
