New Midtown Hotel

The breakfast was great, and so were the staff and location. I’d definitely come back soon. 0

I never even checked in, and I’m still trying to get my money back. As soon as I reached the entrance, I felt the place was wrong for me. The area seemed unsafe and made me uneasy. Getting in was difficult and felt hazardous. There were at least 12 uneven steps with no markings or handrails, a serious trip risk with luggage. The elevator looked ancient, groaned and shook, and made me fear for my safety. No one offered help with my bags, and after struggling up the steps I couldn’t face hauling them into that lift. The dim, neglected entrance felt scary, so I decided not to stay. Despite what seemed to me like unacceptable and potentially dangerous conditions, the hotel refused to refund me. I received no service, and the property seemed to pose a safety risk. The access, location, elevator, and lack of customer help made this a dreadful experience. I’d tell anyone considering it to look elsewhere and spare themselves the stress, possible danger, and financial loss.

We loved the high ceilings, and the historic architecture made a strong impression on us. The carved wooden room door and the two huge, palace-like wooden doors, about 3 meters tall, opened onto a magnificent balcony. Sitting there to watch and listen to the streets of old Cairo was a highlight for my spouse and me. The hotel takes cleanliness seriously. Breakfast was more than enough if, like us, you want something quick before heading out to explore. The internet worked well, and the shower was fine, with no trouble getting hot water, though the pressure varied a bit. It’s also well placed for walking to Khan el-Khalili Bazaar. We couldn’t find an Uber or taxi because of traffic, but it was easy to walk there.

Our room had a balcony, so we ate breakfast out there each day. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the building is being renovated. There’s an elevator, a convenience store right by the entrance, and lots of places to eat and shop nearby. The staff were friendly and helpful.
