Regency Hotel

A nice spot to recharge and enjoy yourself.

The hotel seemed to be getting renovated, and the room was quite dark. We didn't spot much dirt, but the bathroom and sheets were clean enough. The staff were kind and quick to respond, especially the cheerful older administrator who spoke good English. We decided to add another night, and he arranged it without any trouble. We'll miss him. On the roof, we found the 5Doors cafe, with tasty food, a pleasant view of the city at night, and pretty good music. The car noise outside can be a lot, but that's Cairo. The nearby highway junction made it easy for Uber drivers to find the place and take us where we needed to go. The only real nuisance was those crazy cats in the fourth-floor corridor.

The staff were nice, but the room was a letdown. The sheets smelled, and the AC was so loud that we had to switch it off at midnight. I didn't ask for fresh sheets. I was only there for a short time, and by the time I got back each day it was late, so I just let it go. There's nowhere in the hotel to get food, tea, or coffee, so you'll need to buy those outside or order through Talabat. I stayed four nights, and really should have reported the problems while I was there, but, well. I don't think I'll stay here again when I'm in Cairo.

I've been to the rooftop pub three times, and the first and third visits were pretty unpleasant. The first time, the waiter objected when I tried to look at the view. The second visit was nice, thanks to Fox. Tonight, almost nobody was there, but they still asked me not to sit at a table for four. I said I could move if 20 or 30 people showed up, and they accepted that as if it were a big favor. When it was time to pay, my card wouldn't work for them. I didn't have quite enough EGP, about 24 short, so I offered an extra 2 USD, which was more than enough. They told me to wait while they charged the card reader, and then, two minutes later, asked me to move so one person could use my table, even though four or five others were free. I was still waiting to pay. They acted as though this was San Marco Square in Venice or the Champs Elysees, instead of a rooftop overlooking Cairo traffic. A really sad experience. They won't see me there again. So rude and unprofessional.
