We enjoyed wandering around outside the hotel, especially since shopkeepers didn’t hassle us. Soho square is an easy stroll away, and we had a lovely meal at the Anerican diner. For two people, dinner, a drink each, and the taxi there and back came to £30, which felt like a bargain. The food at the hotel was good, though repetitive in the usual all-inclusive way. The pools were very cold. This was our first stay here, and as travellers with mobility issues we found the beach very difficult to reach. It’s on a rocky slope with lots of steps, and the little patch of sand hardly counts as a beach. The hotel was in the process of renovation. We still had an enjoyable visit, but wouldn’t come back.

We were able to check out after just one night, which was fortunate. The resort and its location have their appeal, but I wouldn’t pay extra for the supposed premium experience at the Royal Savoy. The service felt inconsistent and impolite, and not premium at all. The lobby was dingy and dated, more like an old home than somewhere relaxing. The rooms are spacious, but poorly laid out. There are only three outlets: two by the bedside tables and one in the kitchen. One bedside outlet is difficult to reach, and using it means moving the table and unplugging the lamp, so you can’t use both at once. The bathroom hair dryer didn’t work, nor did its outlet, and towels weren’t stocked. If you book, consider the regular Savoy and save the extra money. Check the reviews carefully too, since Savoy and Royal Savoy reviews have been combined. We only noticed after our stay.

The private beach section was the highlight of our week at the Cairo Villa (Royal Savoy). Alaa, Peter, and Tarek made us feel welcome and looked after every day, anticipating what we might need. Emad was also excellent from check-in through check-out, responding promptly to every request. We stayed in February and were glad the villa pool was heated. The villa has three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a large kitchen, and a lovely garden. Housekeeping was efficient and friendly, the place stayed spotless, and the minibar was well stocked. We didn’t lack for anything. We had a great time parasailing, and on another day rented a private boat with a skipper for two hours to snorkel at a wreck near Thomas Reef. The massages were very good too. Amira at the spa reception was friendly and helpful, and speaks excellent German and English. We recommend the therapists Rana and Vishnu. For the desert trip, we booked through Amir and went by private transfer to a starting point in the Sinai Desert, then rode buggies and quads. The organization was spot on and we felt safe and cared for. We recommend going privately to avoid being part of a group of 20. The restaurants at the hotel had excellent food and service. Medhar led the Seafood restaurant team with real efficiency and hospitality. At Soho Square, we also recommend Entrecote, where the food was excellent. We had a fantastic stay and can wholeheartedly recommend the Savoy and Royal Savoy. We’re already looking forward to next year.

The staff were caring and very attentive the whole time, and the hotel itself felt beautiful and relaxing. My daughter and I had a wonderful four days at Royal Savoy Sharm El Sheikh. We’d happily come back.

The resort beach had less coral and fish than the beaches at other resorts we’ve stayed at. I doubt there’s much the hotel can do about that. Otherwise, it’s a well-designed, spacious resort with a large shopping mall attached. The food and drinks were good, too. We had the 'E' package, which added free food and drinks at four mall restaurants on top of the many free restaurants inside the hotel. Definitely five-star.
