Mas Olivella

My first stay at Mas Olivella was a month of volunteering through Workaway in 2018. I worked on all sorts of projects with Juan’s knowledgeable guidance, and the place has stayed close to my heart ever since. Juan and Sam have created a beautiful, welcoming place for volunteers and guests. It’s remote enough to feel away from the everyday rush, but still within comfortable reach of Tarragona, Reus, Cambrils, and Salou. If you love being outdoors, want to try one of their retreats, or simply need a break from city life, the guest lodgings are well appointed. Volunteering through Workaway was a rewarding, educational experience, too. I got to return nearly five years later and was amazed by how much had grown, in the literal and figurative sense. They’d added several lovely dwellings for bed and breakfast guests, including the sweetest little Hobbit house, plus a pool and gazebo with breathtaking views over the valley and surrounding mountains. And the food deserves a mention. It’s delicious and healthy, made as locally and sustainably as possible, with a focus on what’s harvested on the farm. They accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences, and meals can be elaborate or simple. Even the porridge, I swear, beats any porridge I’ve had before. Juan and Sam, thanks for the memories, for treating your guests and volunteers with such respect, and for making everyone feel relaxed, cared for, at home, and well fed.

Such a peaceful spot in nature if you want to switch off. The owners really care about their home and products. The food was delicious, and they also had eco products for us to try. I’d definitely recommend it for some calm and time outdoors.

We stayed in one of the cabins for two days and loved it. Falling asleep to the crickets was such a great experience. Juan and Samantha gave us a lovely welcome, and breakfast was generous, healthy, and delicious, especially the porridge. It was made with fresh produce from their garden. A great place for people who love nature or just need a breather from the hectic pace of life.

We stayed in the green room in the main house, and it was incredibly comfortable. They’re really careful about protecting the environment, avoiding soaps and toilet paper that could pollute it, and they provided soap and cleaning supplies 🙌🏼. It’s a quiet little oasis in the middle of nature. The meals were amazing, all organic seasonal produce cooked by the hosts. We hiked to the second peak for unbeatable views, a bit of adventure, and plenty of laughs. It was so hot when we got back to the farmhouse that we went straight to the pool. Between swims, the owner brought us an organic Chinese beer. One of the best I’ve ever had! A highly recommended weekend away!!!!
