Koala Hostel Mercado

The place was clean, and there are two toilets, so we never had to wait. Coffee and tea are free, and there’s a microwave and kettle too. You can hear the neighbors very clearly, as if they’re right beside you, but for the price I think it’s worth it. Everything being handled online is convenient. We had a check-in problem, but support explained things and sent instructions straight away, and it was sorted in a minute. What more do you need on vacation?

It was easy to get to the city center on foot or by public transport, but I wouldn’t recommend walking back at night because the place is on a small street. Inside, the shared areas had no windows or air conditioning, and the fridge was so full there wasn’t even room for a water bottle. The bathroom setup was a problem: one large bathroom and one small one for six rooms. The shower doors wouldn’t close properly and there was always hair around. The rooms were never cleaned, and we had the same towels for five days. The windows were old and faulty, and the bed was queen-size instead of double. Luckily, you don’t spend long in a B&B on holiday.

The location was the one good thing. Our room hadn’t been cleaned when we arrived around 11 p.m. The sheets were dirty, the towels wet, and there was hair and rubbish on the floor. The owner told Booking.com we were meant to arrive at 3 a.m., which isn’t true. That makes me think our room wasn’t the only one left uncleaned. I don’t recommend this place.

They cancelled a June reservation in April, saying there was construction work at the hotel, right in the middle of summer season? The room cost €30 more per day the very next day. That says enough.
