Hotel Ciutat Vella

We had a really lovely stay. Carlos greeted us warmly when we arrived, told us about the area, and booked our excursions. Christopher was welcoming in the morning too. There were plenty of breakfast choices, and the bedrooms were very clean and refreshed every day. I'd highly recommend it.

The location near La Rambla was top notch. The rooms were clean and modern, the street was quiet, and the wifi was good. But there was no view beyond a small atrium, so the room got no sunlight and felt gloomy. I'd ask for a higher floor. The mattress had hard springs, and the thin doors let you hear everything in the hallway. The bathroom could have been cleaner, with scale and rust on the bathtub faucet. The jacuzzi and solarium (terrasse) were closed.

The location is the main thing going for this place, very close to La Rambla and the port. Sagrada Família is about a 40-minute walk away, so it isn't that close. The jacuzzi wasn't warm enough, and it closed whenever it rained. We went back to try it several times after the rain stopped, but it was still shut. Wifi basically didn't exist in the room. Breakfast was overpriced at €14 per person with very little choice. There was a hole in the bedsheet, and the shower wasn't very clean either.

At check-in we found out the rooftop was being renovated, so the pool and jacuzzi that were included in the price weren't available. Nobody warned us before we arrived. They did offer access to another hotel's rooftop pool, but that place had no jacuzzi. We weren't happy, since we'd paid for those facilities here, and they never gave us compensation or even apologized for the inconvenience. Check whether all the services are available before booking. It was a very bad experience.
